Why do people think Puerto Ricans are black?
Most Puerto Ricans are Caucasian and Multiracial, not black.

The average Puerto Rican's African ancestry is generally 15-20% excluding the 6% in Puerto Rico that are black.
Brazil -Multiracial.

Puerto Rico -Multiracial nation.
Cuba -Mulatto nation. (Mainly mulatto people with whites being the second highest)
Dominican Republic -Mulatto nation. (Mainly mulatto people with whites being the second highest).

Haiti - Black...
Jamaica - Black..
Barbados - Black..
I agree with you...

Ricky Martin and Victor Manuelle are full White Latinos
Eva Mendes, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are White Latinos with a small percentage of Native heritage.
But Michael Stuart is mixed of White, Black and Native.
Why are there Black people in Brazil, Jamaica, etc?
K I am really wondering about this. Black people are from Africa right? So why are there black people in Brazil, Jamaica, and Haiti? I can only figure that it was when the tectonic plates shifted and the continents split up. I know that's what happened to the dinosaurs, so did some black people just get trapped on the South American side when the continents split up? Sounds right, right?
Are you retardad?

The same reason USA have black people.

Find a book of history and read it.
I was in Brazil and noticed black Brazilians?
Where did they come from? They told me their ancestors arrived in the 16th century but how can this be? Where there white Americans stealing africans from slavery, oh wait aren't brazilians Americans and aren't most of them white? So should Brazil give back the land to the natives and all the brazilians theives go home to Portugual?
Great question. The first African slaves brought to the new world came for the labor intensive harvesting of sugar cane. Cane sugar was valued as currency. It didn't grow in Europe. Harvesting sugar was totally brutal. So, Europeans created a plantation system of slave labor to colonize much of central and South America. The System of slavery in the US came about after almost 200 years of sugar cane success in South America. I once had a history professor at UC Berkeley say to me, "If you want to follow the history of slavery in the new world, follow the history of sugar cultivation."
Now, to answer your question, Brazilian people are of mixed race and mixed cultures. There is nowhere for these people to go. they are in essence a creole culture. Out of many groups, became one. Most Brazilians I have met in the US (and I live in San Francisco and have met many) are not all white. The idea of everyone going back to where their ancestors came from is silly and, well, impossible since so many people have mixed ancestry.
Do people in brazil still call black people darkies?
or blackie? that kind of thing. i read an online discussion about the race issue in brazil but the answers were very conflicting.
Maybe you're asking this question, because most people in Brazil are black. In fact, it is, but the prejudice is in everywhere.
By the way, I'm Pardo (a mixture between Whites, Blacks and Amerindians). It's something like the color of the most people in Latin America; in Spanish it would be trigueño. In my case, I'm descendant of Portugueses, Africans and Spanishes.
The people here call the Blacks this way: preto, *****, negão, crioulo, preto feio etc. It is prejudice and against the constitutional laws.
In spite of Brazil being a country with a black hegemony, unfortunately they suffer this prejudice. It happens since the Portuguese colonization when they were treated as slaves.
But the prejudice doesn't exist with the Blacks only, but when a person calls the Whites of amarelos (Yellow), Japaneses of japa etc., it is prejudice too. But, the prejudice is bigger with and between the Blacks (you can believe or not, but there are people here who have prejudice with their black color) than Whites or Amerindians.

I hope I've helped you!

Im from Brazil and no they do not call people darkies and blackies lol I should know because my mum is fully black and my dad is brazilian and when we go on holiday they will not say anything about black people but instead treat them as brothers and sisters. Brazilians do not see themselves as white lol =)
Are there any Blacks in Brazil who are clearly black but don't identify as black ?
Also in Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic.
I've been to Brazil on extended visits and I can say, "racial issues" are not talked about there. Black Brazil(who's the majority) is about 60 years behind Blacks in America. I say that to say, they have not had a civil rights movement or any counter-reaction to the oppression many of them faced before and after slavery. I think many of them deny black for a few reasons. 1. there are many who are rightfully mixed and want to express their other ethnicities. 2. many of them just call themselves Brazilians, not a color. 3. Many I met are proud Blacks and try to hold on to their African cultures(Candoble, Caipoeira, etc). Also, many of the traditions you think are Portuguese Brazilian are, in fact, African(Samba, Feijoada, etc) . I say that to say, there are people there who believe different things for different reasons. Some people embrace every culture that has made them who they are, and who their parents are, so what's wrong in that? Furthermore, the white man has been through this world spreading his seed long before you and I were around, so if a person wants to embrace all the ethnicities that make them who they are, then there is no wrong in that. For the people of Brazil who are in denial, I believe that is what happens when you live in a society that tells you(constantly) that Black is wrong.
Why is a black guy living in brazil is considered hispanic? I mean an asian in u.s. is still Asian?
But most black guys from brazil or south america, they are obviously Black but they color in "hispanic" in the racial ballot
Brazilians are not hispanic. Even in immigration, the officers do not mark us as such. Brazilians are Lusophone since we speak Portuguese so disqualifies us in the Latino/Hispanic mark of US Goverment.

So there are Asian-Brazilian, Afro-Brazilians, etc...just like here in the US
How come brazil has no black presidents?
blacks in brazil are 50%
in US 12%

o_o
Blacks are not 50%. Maybe blacks are some 50 million and it don't make 50% of 200 million, but, 25%.

The answer is lack of good candidates. No good candidate, no black elected. It's simple. I think supreme court minister Joaquim Barbosa would be a good candidate if he was not too much stressed...

By the way. This link posted by Alexandra is a total bullshit. It is an article based on the opinion of one man and his imagination based on supposition.
